Interpersonal skills are the general social services and competencies that are essential to

an individual for him or her to be able to communicate with others in an efficient manner
(Libyan, 2007). It is important to note that communication and creation of good rapport
in the healthcare environment are vital skills which can encourage the healthy
relationship, understanding, and building of trust between health workers professionals
and their clients. The interpersonal skills are applied in the healthcare environment to
determine the ability of health professionals to internalize and convey information via
social interaction and communication. Interpersonal skills in the healthcare environment
are categorized into the seven areas including listening skills, problem-solving skills,
negotiation, verbal communication, non-verbal communication, assertiveness and
decision making. Interpersonal skills measure how smart a person is through gauging
adeptness of an individual in communicating with others and corresponding to the
environment effectively. Good interpersonal skills in the healthcare setting are essential
