f(x) = 2 - x - x^2

= -x^2 - x + 2

= -(x^2+x) + 2

= -(x+1/2)^2 + 2 + 1/4

= -(x+1/2)^2 + 9/4

Therefore f(x) has a MAXIMUM value of 9/4
