beginning of the 20th = Century:
Nationalism rose in the 20th century due to the development of civilization. Civilization
brought about classicism which encouraged the need of people to associate themselves with a
particular nationality. The world wars experienced in the 20th century also contributed to the rise
of nationalism. Nationalism began as a result of groupings of white women and men who
contributed to gender conflicts. Despite the fact that women had formed their own groupings to
advocate for their rights, they were still positioned differently. For instance, feminists were not
allowed to participate in international political conventions and all matters involving politics. This
forced women to unite and push for similar agendas as their male counterparts. Women
associations that championed for equal opportunities and education for women were formed (Sluga
62). This led to the need of having a national identity that supports the gender argument.
