Health care services are subject to changes in the external environment such as
innovations. Therefore, measurement of clinical outcomes is essential in ensuring development
and implementation of different strategies. The application of these techniques has increased the
quality of health care and QI process. There is a transition in the health care industry from a cost
focus to quality of patient-care service. Quality improvement processes will be the primary factor
that determines the achievement of long term success whereas cost may only achieve the short
term goals. The study analyzed the different methods used to qualitatively and quantitatively
measure the quality improvement process in the health facility. It was evident from the study that
qualitative methods appropriate in measuring QI process include PDSA technique, Data
gathering and determination, Open interview and focused groups, process mapping, and
benchmarking among others. On the other hand, clinical audit, Pareto principle, survey, quasiexperimental, and statistical processes control chart were suitable for measuring quantitative QI
Methods used to Measure QI Process qualitatively
Quality improvement (QI) process in the health care sector can be appropriately
measured using qualitative methods. Different qualitative methods are used to collect data from
consumers of health care products to determine the extent of quality improvement in the health
care facility. The quality of services in the service industry may differ from one person to
another hence the need to use different qualitative methods to measure customer satisfaction. In
