Introduction
Employee performance is often linked to leadership and ethical behavior. Most of the
time, organizations which proper claim to have good leaders who facilitate ethical practices
among employees. For failing firms, leaders are often changed. Company owners will put the
blame on the leaders for failing to attain given objectives. This indicates that there is very strong
connection between employee performance and leadership. On the other hand, ethical behaviors
entail abiding by a given set of morals and standards. For instance, honesty, dedication,
willingness to serve others, humility, and accountability. There are numerous leadership theories
that can be used to portray the relationship between the performance of the workers and
managers. Behavioral leadership theory is one of them. The theory evaluates the actions that
leaders portray in the work environment. This has a direct impact on the quality of work the
employees will offer. Behaviours evaluate varied leadership styles individuals may have on the
workforce. Thus, Ethical leadership affects employee performance through the motivating
work environment it creates. A positively motivated environment promotes hard work. On
the other side, a negatively motivated one discourages employee participation.
The purpose of this study is to evaluate the impacts of ethics and leadership on the
performance of employees. This can also be termed as organizational performance. Leaders play
the management roles of organizations that include controlling, staffing, planning, and
organizing. To bring outa clear relationship of the variables in question, it will be vital to focus
on these roles. However, staffing will dominate since it deals more with the organization’s talent.
This is the engine of every operation for an industry when supplemented with the right
ingredients. Firms cannot run without employees. Neither can they without good leadership. In
an attempt to define the relationship between leadership and employee performance, the concepts

of quality management and leadership will also emerge. Different leadership styles like
authoritarian, delegative, transformational, and transactional will be evaluated. They all have a
part to play as far as employee performance is concerned.
The research is helpful to entrepreneurs. Every business person knows that employee
performance directly affects organizational existence. Therefore, if leadership and ethical
behaviours have an impact on labor, why not intervene? A good intervention only comes from
understanding the idea behind formulated theories. For example, leaders play a role in
motivating employees. This results to more dedication. Hence, the quality and quantity of the job
done improves. It is the dream of every entrepreneur to succeed. Thus, this research provides a
unique angle from which business owners can select and deploy an effective work environment.
Most of the time when financial crisis occurs in firms, fingers are pointed to leaders. They, in
turn, point to the poor performance of their employees. should this circle of blame continue? A
better understanding of the leadership and ethical theories in this paper will help management
understand the role of leaders when it comes to employee performance. Furthermore, it will help
