You will write the first part of your research and/or EBP practice change proposal.
As you learned from the first week’s readings, a well-constructed proposal is required to obtain approval to complete a project or conduct research.
A proposal describes the project in detail to include: the purpose, the significance, the state of the literature on the topic, the research design, methods, participant recruitment and protection, and how you will analyze the data gathered during the project itself.
You are not conducting the project in this course. You are developing the proposal to submit to the IRB. The introduction is the first part of the EBP proposal.

Assignment Guidelines
1. Complete all the required readings for Week 1.
2. In the discussion forum for week 1, you identified a nursing problem or area of interest that you will focus on for your evidence-based proposal and you have formulated the research question that you will be a part of your project throughout this course.
RESEARCH PROJECT TOPIC PROPOSAL EVIDENCE BASED PRACTICE(EBP) PREVENTINE PRESSURE ULCERS IN THE GERIATRIC POPULATION
The research topic that interests me is the Preventing Pressure Ulcers in the geriatric population for those that are 65 years or older, which has becoming increasingly prevalent in the healthcare setting where these pressure ulcers cause death because of poor management. Each year, more than 2.5 million people in the United States develop pressure ulcers. These skin lesions bring pain, associated risk for serious infection, and increased health care utilization. Pressure ulcers are associated with longer hospital stays and increased morbidity and mortality. They also remain a serious problem despite regulatory and market approaches to encourage prevention and treatment. About 60,000 patients die as a direct result of a pressure ulcer each year.
PICOT Question: In older adults aged 65 years old with pressure ulcers, is the Braden scale an appropriate tool of utilization necessary to assess risk of skin breakdown, compared to a non-standardized assessment tool for skin breakdown in older adults upon 24 hours of admission?

Generally, Paul is happy with his job and doesn't mind dealing with a few inexperienced correctional officers who tend to make minor mistakes. He occasionally gets some tough prisoners, but they settle down quickly because of the fair policies enforced by Paul. The overall environment of the prison is peaceful.One day he had lunch with his friend Stephen, who is the warden of a large maximum-security prison located outside a metropolitan city with a high crime rate. Stephen oversees 720 inmates and 130 staff members in a facility designed to house 375 prisoners. Due to overcrowding and budget cuts, the prison offers limited treatment and education programs, most of which are staffed by volunteers. The majority of the inmates are repeat offenders with lengthy sentences, and 20 percent of them are serving life without the possibility of parole. Major disciplinary infractions occur on a daily basis. Although the overall atmosphere of the prison is orderly, there is constant tension between the staff and inmates, and maintaining security is an ongoing struggle.Stephen's views about his job are completely different from Paul's. Stephen finds his job overwhelming, thankless, and stressful. This is surprising to Paul because both of them underwent the same training, worked together as fresh officers, and use similar managerial techniques.
