Rick’s New Job

Rick is a new employee who was lucky to be promoted after terminating his 6 months
internship to a sales manager. The paper manufacturing company had weaknesses in the sales
management, and there was a traditional model of doing things. Rick, as a new manager has to
work alongside other managers, among them, Val and Rosie, and Diane. Diane, for instance had
worked his way up for the previous 10 years, and all through, these managers had not
implemented changes. It seemed that the sales team was very preservative to a point where they
did not endorse computer work. Rick came with ambitions to make rapid changes, to match his
college education. However, he was not able to complete most of his ambitions before he was
terminated because of having too ambitious plans for the company (Blanchard, & Thacker,
2013). This paper analyzes the case and how it fits into theories and principles of effective
training.
