DEVELOPMENTAL PSYCHOLOGY WITH ATTACHMENT IN TODDLERS

Introduction
There is a concern of children in very early stages of life experiencing attachment
insecurity, but is not common with all children. It is clear that there are factors that drive this
reaction. It is also clear that mother-toddler attachment is threatened by some factors such as
extreme poverty and lack of support, domestic violence and many other negative experiences
that the mother faces during pregnancy and early maternity. Scholars take time to investigate
such occurrences and compile reports. Handley et al (2017) and Porcerelli et al (2015) have
researched in this area, and their articles reporting their findings on the effect of mental pressure
on women at late pregnancy and early motherhood on toddler’s secure attachment. Handley et al
(2017), for instance, considered the effect of depression, how the mothers reacted to it, and the
effect on toddlers. Porcerelli et al (2015) Porcerelli, Huth-Bocks, Huprich, and Richardson
(2015) researched on the relationship between the defensive mechanism that stressed up mothers
develop while pregnant affect their parenting and attachment to their offspring. These two
studies are a literature guide to the development of this research paper.
Hypothesis
There is a relationship between mental health concerns in women during later pregnancy
and early motherhood and insecurity attachments in their children. Children born of women who
suffer mental pressure and disorders are at a higher risk of developing insecure attachments.

insecure attachment to their mothers (Handley, Michl-Petzing, Rogosch, Cicchetti, & Toth,
2017).
The population was taken through interpersonal psychotherapy (IPT) in a bid to treat the

results proved that the mothers become more organized in motherly antiques observed while they
were handling their toddlers after treatment. In addition, mothers were able to accept their
