Introduction
Annotated bibliography on the determinants of poverty within America, organized by
state. Every citation in the given bibliography contains a brief annotation outlining the substance
of that particular item. Research and technical papers as well as academic books are also
included in this bibliography. "Given the huge amount of material that has been written on this
topic, this bibliography is but a smattering. Studies on poverty in America were found by
consulting a number of important databases of social science and government-sponsored centers'
websites. There were a number of research institutions examined in this study, including the UC
Davis Poverty Center Research, the University of Kansas Center for Poverty Research, the
Wisconsin University Institute for Poverty Research, and Stanford University. Only texts
published after 1996, when Welfare Reform Act changed the country's institutional framework,
were included. To better understand how "adverse incorporation," "closure," and
"marginalization" impoverish territories, sectors, and people, this annotated bibliography intends
ot look at both the most recent development studies reasoning on social exclusion and the often
deeper and more historical debates in social sciences.
