    Although naturalism and realism have been used interchangeably due to their similarities
    as literary movements, they are different terms with different meanings and concepts. They are
    different artistic styles with significant differences amongst them. While realism sought after
    being a faithful life representation, naturalism looked more as a chronicle of despair. In some
    way, naturalism grew from realism and can be viewed as an exaggerated type of realism. It views
    human beings as being influenced by social and environmental, conditions which are beyond
    human control hence can do little to avoid their situation. While realism's main focus was on the
    problems of the middle class, naturalism mainly focused on the lower class and poorly educated
    individuals, in addition to themes to do with taboo activities and violence. In naturalism, nature
    is an indifferent mechanism of power and a strong force whereas in realism truthful
    representation of reality ...
