State-dependent cues are governed by the state of mind and being at the time of encoding. The emotional or mental state of the person, such as being inebriated, drugged, upset, anxious or happy are key cues for state dependent memory.
State-dependent recall uses the physiological state as a contextual cue. Whenever no contextual cue is provided, internal states may serve as contextual cues.
Context effect cues are dependent on the environment and the situation.
