Description
You have been selected to open two subsidiaries of organization XYZ. The headquarters of the organization is in the KSA. The organization is dedicated to the production of mobile devices. One of these new subsidiaries will be located in Mexico and the other one will be located in Denmark.
As you can see in the image below, which is from Hofstede’s Cultural Dimension Theory, there are differences and similarities among the countries. Leaders should attempt to understand these differences to create effective organizational strategies. Specifically, these cultural dimensions can help leaders determine business approaches, how to address negotiations, and can aid in creating strong management and leadership styles.

In additional to Hofstede’s Cultural Dimension Theory, the GLOBE research has identified six global leadership behaviors that are considered important in different cultures. These leadership behaviors are as follows:
- Charismatic/ Value-Based
- Team-Oriented
- Participative
- Humane-Oriented
- Autonomous
- Self-Protective
Now, thinking about the above information:
- Based on Hofstede’s cultural dimensions, briefly describe the similarities and differences between the dimensions in Denmark, the KSA, and Mexico.
- Analyze how the cultural dimensions of the three countries (i.e., Denmark, the KSA, and Mexico) impact leadership styles, leadership behaviors, and the decision-making process of leaders. What factors most greatly impact leadership qualities?
- Explain which type of leadership behaviors, based on the GLOBE research, should be understood and how these leadership behaviors may impact the different cultures (Mexico and Denmark).
- Explain why it is important for leaders to understand cultural differences before doing business in other countries.

Power Distance
Denmark
Denmark ranks towards the bottom of the scale, earning just 18 points out of 100. Many
foreigners attest that leaders coach and allow their employees to work under minimal or no
supervision in Denmark. Denmark is the most employee-friendly country in the European Union
(Country comparison, 2021). With an egalitarian mindset, the Danes think that independence,
equal rights, accessible superiors, and management encourage and empower the individual
worker. Managers rely on the collective wisdom of their staff when exercising authority. You
acquire respect in Denmark by demonstrating your practical knowledge. The employment
climate is relatively informal, with direct and intimate communication and the usage of first
names. Employees have the right to have their voices heard.
Mexico and KSA
Mexico has a rating of 81, which indicates that it is a hierarchical society. Similarly, KSA
scores 95 out of 100. According to these results, the general public is comfortable with a
hierarchical structure in which everyone has a position and doesn't need any more explanation
from those in power Country comparison, 2021). According to the conventional view of
hierarchy, inequalities are reflected in an organization's structure, and the ideal boss is a benign
autocrat who tells subordinates what to do.

Individualism
Denmark
Individualism thrives in Denmark, which has 74 out of 100 scores. The desire to be selfsufficient, both for oneself and the people closest to oneself, is rising. The Danes are a pretty
accessible target for foreign businesses (Country comparison, 2021). You don't need to build
connections initially, so don't bother with a small chat. The directness with which the Danes
communicate is also well-known.
Mexico and KSA
According to the index, Mexico and KSA are collectivistic cultures because of their high
scores of 30 and 25. For example, one may observe this in their long-term commitment to their
family or other close relationships. Besides, loyalty is more vital than any other aspect (Country
comparison, 2021). Everyone in the community accepts responsibility for their other citizens'
well-being. Their actions in a collectivist society shame them. Their employers and their workers
are morally comparable to family members, and management is done via the control of groups
rather than individuals in these cultures.
Masculinity
Denmark
Denmark is a Feminine society, with a score of 16 on this dimension. In nations with a
primarily female population, it's critical to maintain a healthy work-life balance and incorporate
everyone. As a manager, one must encourage their staff and ...
