Abstract
Data warehousing is one of the critical and most valuable assets in the enterprise today. Data
warehouse contains very sensitive information and this makes it so appealing point for malicious
as well as outside attackers. Grounded on the fact that, the data handled in business today is very
large, the majority of the existing data security solutions are nearly inefficient, therefore, many
attacks happen to lead to stolen data (Kimball, & Ross, 2011). This paper presents data security,
different techniques used in data warehousing to ensure data security as well as the importance
of data security. Some of techniques used in business today and their advantages and the future
of data security are also discussed.

Introduction
Data security is a collection of all measures that ensure data is safe and is only accessible to the
authorized personnel. Database security, on the other hand, prevents malicious threats as well as
attacks from different personnel who aim at accessing specific information which they do not
have the right to access. There are different tools and techniques that are used to ensure that data
is secure. Generally, data is stored in database management systems, database servers, databases
and workflow applications (Mosley, Brackett, Earley, & Henderson, 2010). Data security in
databases is usually planned and implemented by professionals who ensure that only eligible
people are able to access the stored information.
Database administrators use different techniques such as restriction of unauthorized access to the
data by use of management controls, testing how capable a certain database is capable of holding
a specific amount of data to ensure that the database does not crash due to (DDoS) that is, attack
