Effective doctor patient communication plays a key role in this relationship. A doctors'
interpersonal and communication skills are key components in his/her ability to gather correct
information and establish an accurate diagnosis. Miscommunication in physician-patient
interaction will negatively affect a patients' recovery process.
To begin with, the recovery process will automatically slowdown in the case where a
doctor fails to disclose important information regarding a patient's role in the recovery process.
This may affect the choices that the patient makes regarding their end of life care or treatment
and may have significant impacts on the sides. Effective communication allows a patient to
become aware of the fact that he/she is an active participant in the recovery process.
