Mental Health Disorder-Dementia
Introduction
Dementia is not a specific disease, it is a word used to explain a broad range of symptoms
relating to the decline of memory and other thinking skills that can shorten a person’s
competency to perform daily activities (Alzheimer’s Association, 2015)
Causes of dementia
According to Picard, Pasquier, Martinaud, Hannequin, &Godefroy, (2011).This disease is
a coordination of psychological deterioration hastened by diverse illnesses or disorders.
Generally, dementia transpires when brain nerve cells (neurons) perish, these disturbances have

Huntington disease. Although these different diseases have their unique symptoms they all are

Poor nutrition, dehydration and certain substance abuse such as alcohol may lead to dementia.
Conditions such as vitamin deficiencies, metabolic disorders and insulin resistance are also a

Other conditions that can cause dementia include traumatic head injuries and Acquired

depression or an adverse reaction to drugs and may be partly or completely reversed if the
disorder is identified and treated timely (Picard et al., 2011).
