Find the zeros of the polynomial function.

 f(x) = x3 + 3x2 - x - 3

Mar 17th, 2015

x^3 + 3x^2 - x - 3 = 0

x^2(x + 3) - 1(x + 3) = 0

(x^2 - 1)(x + 3) = 0

x^2 - 1 = 0

x^2 = 1

sqrt(x^2) = +/- sqrt(1)

x = 1 or -1

or

x+3 = 0

x = -3

Zeros: x = -1 , 1 , 3
