Theatre Dance and the Use of Technology
Introduction
Technology has been changing worldwide in a rapid manner for the past years. People
are after acquiring the latest tablet, computer, cellphone or a camera. New technology has made
it possible to do several tasks using a single device. Moreover, in this modern world cellphones
are used for many tasks apart from just talking.
The Impact of Dance in Films and Television.
For over one hundred years, technological advances and to be specific film technology,
have had a great impact in the world of dance. In 1880s, Eadweard James Muybridge and
Etienne-Jules Marey applied technology of emerging photography to study the motion of animals
by using sequential still photographs. Moreover, followed by several other developments in the
field of photography and eventually a camera was developed that was capable of recording
movement of living things.
Integrating Technology into Dance.

Furthermore, even though new inventions had led to integration of films with dance and
the use of video camera to record dance, the most recent technology involves the incorporation
of technology in in the process of creating dance itself.
Conclusion
It is very evident that technology has become an integral part of lives of peoples across
the world and almost the whole society is depending on technology for every accomplishment in
their lives from simple tasks to complex or major activities.
My plan after am done with school is to open a dance film industry. This is because in
this modern world where incorporation of technology in theatre dance is inevitable, there is a
high demand for dance films since they are compatible with the recent technology.

Theatre Dance and the Use of Technology
Introduction
Technology has been changing worldwide in a rapid manner for the past years. People
are after acquiring the latest tablet, computer, cellphone or a camera. New technology has made
it possible to do several tasks using a single device. Moreover, in this modern world cellphones
are used for many tasks apart from just talking. This is because modern cellphones can take
quality videos and picture, provide directions of travel and access the internet. The development
of application is being done almost on weekly basis. In addition, movies and television programs
can be watched on computers, GPS units provides directions and books can be easily read on a
tablet. Technology has also created many options of entertainment other than the watching of
performance in a theatre (Craine and Mackrell 16).
This thesis explains how with the advancement of technology can the world of dance can
be incorporated so as to expand opportunities and increase the impact of dance in the world. AS
it will be discussed in this thesis, the adoption of film technology has made it possible to
presence dance to people through the use of television and cinema. Moreover, the increased
popularity in reality television shows have increased the number of people watching dances.
However, advance in technology on people’s access to dance have also change the altitude of

people on watching live dance performances in a theatre. The world of concert dance ought to
incorporate technology in theatre dance so as to be able to attract and maintain younger or newer
audiences. In other words, technology should be applied as a means or tool through which people
watch performances. It is also worth noting, that technology is also useful as a tool of creativity
through the use of sensors to control sequences of video and music so as to attract dancers from
different parts of the world for the sole purpose of performances. It is also possible to use
technology as a delivery system through which performance videos are streamed to computers
(Birringer 57).
Furthermore, it is important to note that even though theatre dance world is so much
established in tradition, there is a need for the art form to evolve so as to meet the expectation of
new audiences and adapt to the various changes of environment. The integration of technology
with theatre dance may not work well for every person and this thesis attempts to prove
otherwise. Therefore, the primary goal of this thesis is discussing the topic of technology in the
theatre dance world and highlight the implementations that might be initiated by theatre dance
companies of they are to adapt technology.

cinematograph made it possible to use a single device to project and record a moving image. In
addition, Thomas Edison was able to film Ruth St. Denis, a modern dance pioneer in a dance
performance that involved the dancer moving a full skirt around so as to manipulate the profile
of the body (Geraghty and Jancovich 213). It was this event that historically marked a first-time
dance capturing on film and from that time to date film and dance have ever since been
intertwined. In the past films was the only invention able to capture a live performance for a
particular concert dance. According to dance technology, a concert dance can be defined as any
dance that is performed live on stage in the presence of audience and is choreographed for
purposes of artistic value. Moreover, concert dance was created for the sake of art and not for
purpose of financial gains. On the other hand, commercial dance is referred to any form of dance
that can be viewed in music videos, films, television shows and commercials. Generally, the
purpose of commercial dance is to promote other missions ...
