What is the Pythagorean theorem?

The Pythagorean theorem states that if you have a right triangle, then the sum of the square of the legs equals the square of the hypotenuse.

So, then the legs of the triangle are given by letters "a" and "b", and the hypotenuse is letter "c",  then

a^2 + b^2 = c^2
