the base of a triangle is 3 cm greater than the height. the area is 44 cm2. find the height and the length of the base.

Let h = height

then, the base is h+3

Therefore,

(1/2)(h+3)(h) = 44

(h+3)(h) = 88

h^2+3h = 88

h^2 + 3h - 88 = 0

(h - 8)(h+11) = 0

Therefore,

height = 8 cm

base = 8+3 = 11 cm
