I AM IN A COLLEGE LEVEL LIBERAL ARTS MATH CLASS AND NEED HELP WITH A BASE PROBLEM.  MULTIPLY IN THE INDICATED BASE 443 X 6 (BASE EIGHT).......THE PRODUCT IS _______ (BASE EIGHT)

Mar 18th, 2015

Before we can multiply these numbers we need to make sure they both have the same base.

443 (base 10)

6 (base 8) so lets convert it to base 10.

6 x 8^0  =  6 x 1  =  6 (base 10).

Now we can multiply the numbers.

443 x 6 = 2658 (base 10).

It looks like the answer needs to be in base 8, so lets convert:

2658 / 8 = 332 remainder 2

332 / 8   = 41   remainder 4

41 / 8     = 5     remainder 1

5 / 8       = 0     remainder 5

Reading the remainders backwards we get 5142 (base 8)
