RUNNING HEAD: Strategic Planning Course Project Part 3 – Strategic Planning Rasmussen College 1 2 RUNNING HEAD: Strategic Planning SWOT Analysis Strengths Weaknesses • User Experience • Lack of Integrity • Streaming Capability • DVD Decline • Large Subscriber base • Poor Customer Service Opportunities Threats • International Markets • Competitive Environment • Having Original Content • Content Prices • To improve our integrity • The good employees wanting to work for competitors. A SWOT analysis is a strategic planning tool that helps a business identify their own strengths and weakness, as well as any opportunities and threats that may exist in a business situation. In the case of MovieFlix, I have detailed some strengths, weaknesses, opportunities, and threats to help guide us through this strategic planning phase of the problem. Below are the reasons why I have listed these topics: RUNNING HEAD: Strategic Planning 3 STRENGHTS • User Experience - Unlimited movies/TV episodes streamed directly to user and DVDs delivered quickly to your home. • Streaming Capability - Streaming service available on almost any Internet enabled devices so that more customers could receive our content. • Large Subscriber Base - MovieFlix currently has 19 million subscribers. WEAKNESSES • Lack of Integrity - Employees and executives are cutting corners, lying, stealing, to get ahead. • DVD Decline - Movies and TV shows are being streamed more regularly so the demand for physical DVDs is declining. • Poor Customer Service - This goes hand in hand with the lack of integrity. Employees are not being truthful to customers in order to sign new people up to make themselves look better. OPPORTUNITES • International Markets - We have the capability to expand worldwide and increase our subscriber base. • Having Original Content - Planning and creating original shows exclusively to MovieFlix so that customers will want to subscribe to us even if they are subscribed with a competitor. RUNNING HEAD: Strategic Planning • 4 To improve our integrity - Since our integrity is so low, we have the opportunity to improve it immensely to build our reputation. THREATS • Competitive Environment - With the emergence of technology there have been more and more streaming and DVD services on the market. Redbox, Netflix, Hulu, HBO Go, etc. • Content Prices - With such a competitive market it is going to be hard to have our price competitive so that we could maintain a profit. • Loss of Good Employees - The employees that display good integrity might not feel they are being treated fairly and go work for out competition. TIMETABLE The first step into getting this problem completed is already done. We have identified the problem and now based on my recommendations we will take steps in order to solve it. With the leaders of your company we need to sit down and come up with, as a group, a new code of ethics that WILL be followed. Once that is completed we then need to make sure that all employees have a copy and understand what is expected of them. One full day there needs to be a workplace town hall meeting so that we can present and explain to all employees what we want from them. Have them ask questions so that they understand. Let them know that this is a no tolerance policy and it will cost their job if they fail to follow this new code of ethics. We need have in place a quality assurance team to listen to phone calls with the customer and make sure that we are consistent and telling the customer accurate information. We also need to get with HR to make sure that on the interview process for new employees that we ask some RUNNING HEAD: Strategic Planning integrity based questions, so we hire the right people. Now the timetable to set all of this set up going to be 3-4 months, then it will be solely on the company to implement and maintain the requirements. 5 ...
