The American Nursing Association (ANA) defines nursing informatics as “a specialty that
integrates nursing science, computer science, and information science to manage and
communicate data, information, knowledge, and wisdom in nursing practice” (ANA, 2008) Many
articles have been written on the effects of nursing informatics on practice among them the
enhancement of informed decision making among hospital stakeholders, reduced errors in
provision of care, reduced patient waiting time among others (Spetz, 2012) Most health
institutions have implemented the use of information and computer systems in practice to some
