Applying Pythagoras theorems in the two triangles formed:

PT = Hypotenuse^2 = Perpendicular^2 + Base^2

Triangle formed between City Centre and Sojourner ParkPresentation1.pptx 

Hypotenuse^2 = 4^2 + 5^2 = 16 + 25 = 49 

Hypotenuse = 7 miles

Similarly we will get for the trianles made by mall and city centre

Hypotenuse^2 = 2^2 + 3^2 = 4 + 9

Hypotenuse = route of 13

Hypotenuse = 3.6 miles

Hence total road length = 7 + 3.6 = 10.6 miles

Hypotenuse = route of 13

Hypotenuse = 3.5 miles

Hence total road length = 6.4 + 3.5= 9.9 miles
