Describe Radiography and Other Imaging Techniques
Radiography is an important tool within clinical settings and dentistry. Specifically,
radiography entails the utilization of high-resolution two-dimensional images to diagnose a bone
disorder and foreign bodies and assess for bones and joint diseases. Some of the common
imaging techniques include the utilization of X-rays, Magnetic Resonance Images (MRI), and
Computerized Tomography (CT) scans. X-rays tend to use a shorter wavelength that higherdensity bodies can reflect. The reflection occurs due to less space between the atoms, resulting in
the production of still pictures of bones and organs. X-rays radiographs are the most commonly
used diagnostic images in the clinical setting (Darvell, 2018). Even though X-ray is common
within the clinical setting, repeated test increases the risk of cancer, and among pregnant women,
X-rays increase the risk of abnormalities. The other imaging technique is the CT scan which uses
X-rays from different angles. CT scanners are used to build an image in slices that occur through
the formation of beams in an arc. Computers are then used to build the images and produce a
two-dimensional image of the body organs (Van Beek & Hoffman, 2008). CT scans are only
recommended with a good rationale from the doctors, but nursing and pregnant women should
not undertake CT scans. Meanwhile, MRI produces body images without using X-rays but
leverages radiations and magnetic waves. Signals produced by the magnets are used to produce
more detailed pictures than those produced by x-rays. However, despite the differences in
imaging techniques, all from the first line of diagnosis and treatment approaches for patients.
