Description

Compare and contrast cat. 6 unshielded twisted pair (UTP), coaxial, and single mode fiber optic cabling types. Describe one or two of the advantages and/or disadvantages associated with using each cable type for a business’s network infrastructure. Consider the (a) cost per foot or meter; (b) termination/installation cost; (c) bandwidth; (d) cable length/transmission distance; (e) end point devices (i.e., workstation, wireless access point, switch, router, server, SAN, etc.); (f) use – in-building horizontal or vertical; and (g) conversion or interface equipment. Be sure to support your information with the appropriate citation(s).

The paper must use APA format and should contain at least 4 to 5 pages of content not count the title page and a reference page, a reference page should have minimum of three peer-reviewed references.

COMPUTER NETWORK
A computer network is an interconnection of two or more computers for the purpose of
sharing resources. Resources that can be shared are files scanners and printers. For resources to
be shared wireless media include electromagnetic wave and microwave. This research paper will
discuss on the wired media. Typical example of wired media includes the optical fiber and
copper. Copper can be categorized as either coaxial or twisted pair. The twisted pair cabling
consists of wires of a single circuit twisted together to cancel off electromagnetic interference.
There are two types of twisted pair; the shielded twisted pair and the unshielded twisted pair. The
coaxial can also be categorized into two;10 base2,10 base 5.

MODE FIBRE OPTIC
1 Physical construction
Cat 6 utp consist of 4 pairs of 0.50mm copper of fluorinated ethylene propylene jacket
and the outside covered by polyvinylchloride.
The coaxial cable on the other hand is constructed in such that the sinner copper
conductor shielded with a mesh and covered by an outer jacket.
Single mode optic fiber consists of a core totally surrounded by a cladding material that is
transparent and has a lower refraction index.
