This are some of the things behind imperialism in Africa.

  1. Need for resources
  2. Political competition
  3. Technological advances
Economic factors were more of a driving force behind imperialism because the imperialists were in need for natural resources for them to improve their technology and their national pride. Another factor too for imperialism was political competition. They needed to feel superior than the others. The countries that held African colonies by 1914 were the British, French, German, Italian, Portuguese, Belgian, and the Spanish. France and Britain were the biggest winners in the race to capture African colonies, because they conquered the most land.
