BUSINESS IMPACT ANALYSIS
Introduction
Organization use business impact analysis or BIA to forecast the magnitude of
disruptions in its commercial activities, systems and processes by gathering appropriate data that
can be utilized to create strategies the firm will use to recover in time of emergency. BIA enables
the firm to identify causes of losses such as delays in service and suppliers' refusal to deliver
products and services. Further, an organization can identify risks related to problems identified.
The identification of risk scenarios for the firm enables it to develop and invest in mitigation and
recovery plans that will prevent the business from closing down its operation (Fani & Subriadi,
2019). In addition, business impact analysis is essential in evaluating the timescales of business
disruption and its severity or intensity in a firm's operation. This study aims to analyze the
significant components of business impact analysis.
Components of Business Impact Analysis
A practical business impact analysis has several components the organization will
incorporate while developing a disaster recovery and mitigation plan. The first element is
executive sponsorship. When an organization is creating its business impact analysis, executive
sponsorship is critical in supporting business units. An effective method of influencing executive
sponsorship support when conducting business impact analysis is by developing an effective
communication approach that will assist the organization team in sharing information (Muflihah
& Subriadi, 2018). The organization can transmit information to the firm executive using
different strategies such as holding regular meetings, newsletters and sending messages by email.
The information shared with the firm executive should focus on highlighting the significance of
