DEFORESTATION CONTROVERSY
The issue of deforestation has become a major topic of discussion in many countries
because it significantly affects the environment. It affects not only the animals but also the
human race. There are so many resources that both humans and animals need to survive; these
resources are in the trees (Jepma, 2014). The woods in the forests are mostly used to support
human life, for example, to refresh the air that people inhale (Jepma, 2014). The forest is a home
for many animals and hence, needs the protection from destruction.
There are so many activities taking place on the planet earth that are involved in
deforestation. Due to the scarcity of farming land, most people have diverted their attention to
the forest. The forest is now in the process of conversion to large agricultural plantations
(Minang, & Van Noordwijk, 2013). Some of the reasons for forest clearance are; to give room
for a large scale agricultural farm, which is to increase the output of the globally demanded
commodities like palm oil; other people are also clearing the forests to find settlement areas.
