The answer is, well, it depends. Unions have the ability to restrict the supply of labor to a job, which can increase wages for some workers. However, unions can also lower wages. For example, work stoppages and strikes supported by unions can slow down economic growth, lowering real wages. To illustrate this, we take a look at what happened to Great Britain's economy during the 1970's union strikes. Click here for video .LTE It's important to note that unions are not just about wages - they can be helpful in protecting workers from arbitrary abuses and maintaining positive workplace relationships. Finally, we ask are there differences between professional associations and unions? How are they similar? Watch to learn more about how unions affect the economy. Do Unions Raise Wages? They are also basically increasing demand for your certain job such as maybe electricity. . LTE Some pros to unions can include: promoting higher wages, better benefits, organization is better and they can be trend setters. Meaning before unions became a thing weekends wasn't wasn't a thing, and they didn't have any provisions. Unions also made overtime rules a better thing for the employees as well. Some con's to unions can be that they require fees/ dues that the workers have to pay the organization helping them. The workers are also bound to the unions so if they disagree with the decisions of the union worker they can't really do anything about it but resign from their position. Unions also make it so you can't move up in the company or if someone has a higher education than you, you would still get the job because of seniority. The union makes it so the "perfect" worker per say wouldn't get the job over someone who has less education and more experience. The difference between a professional association and a union is the professional one will cater to the individual needs of the person but in a union they will focus with the relationship of the employer instead of the individual people. Unions are also considered an association but with the regular union the employer legally has to bargain with the union worker. We often get various questions that leave us hanging on the various things, more on the
wages. Quite a several individuals have always raised questions that do the Unions raise wages,
and the answer to that the union can both lower and, at the same time, raise the wages. It should
be noted that the union focuses very much on what the employees like and prefer most. This
includes the month of daily pay and the allowances/benefits.
Economists have done various researches on the unions and proven that the other reason
the unions are formed is to help the employers be able to negotiate in whatever way...
