Motivation
Motivation refers to a state of burning passion arising from need, desire, and want that
propels an individual to exert mental and physical energy to achieve set objectives. It reflects the
state of mind filled with a level of enthusiasm and energy that drives an individual to work in
certain ways toward achieving set goals (Peters, 2015). It is a force pushing individuals to work
with a high focus and commitment even when facing challenges. It translates into behavior that
drives human action towards success. Motivation is an inspirational process impelling team
members to diligently be loyal to as well as support the group, implement tasks to acceptable
levels, and perform an influential part in the task undertaken by the group (Peters, 2015).
Michael Jucious notes that motivation entails the stimulation of oneself or someone else to
achieve a desired target or perform a desired deed by doing what is right to obtain the desired
outcome.
Characteristics of Motivation
The first outstanding feature of motivation is that it is a psychological process, meaning it
must come from every individual. Two outstanding factors define motivation: fundamental needs
such as clothes, food, and shelter, and ego, defined by the satisfaction of self-esteem,
opportunities arising from achievements, recognition from others, and self-actualization (Hasan
ogli, 2021). These act as a powerful but unconscious motivator for behavior. Intrinsic
motivation, in this case, can be more influential than external influence. The other characteristic
is that motivation affects the whole individual and not just a part of them. The number of basic
needs a person has to satisfy determines the extent to which how one will try to work at any
point. It is critical to consider that all needs are related because each function as an integrated
whole (Hasan ogli, 2021).
