Lend-Lease Act and America’s Motives
Many historians believe that the U.S. was actually trying to take advantage of Great Britain's position, since the British had no choice but to agree to any terms that the U.S. set (Lend-Lease, 1). However, evidence does not support this statement. Although Roosevelt did write a tough Lend-Lease Act, he only did so because the American public demanded it and he never meant to follow through on it. Additionally, those who did want to take advantage of England economically did not have the opportunity to do so and no actual harm came to the European country. Therefore, the American motivations for the Lend-Lease Act were good, since the act was passed with the intention of helping Britain, not taking advantage of it.
