The film had many insights that I could learn about the slave trade. The United
States was a significant player in this illegal trade. After the prohibition, slave traders
carried some prisoners to Southern America, particularly hundreds soon, well before
American Revolution. Politicians, landowners, and bankers impacted legislation,
migration patterns, cotton production and sales, and remaking the land directly (Syed,
2016). Slave prices, just like other commodities, used to fluctuate over time due to
variables such as availability and reduction of commodity pricing such as natural
fibers. Slavery was lucrative even when considering the overall associated with
owning and maintaining an enslaved person. Most enslavers typically provided only
the absolute necessities of shelter and food and compelled their African slaves to
always work from dawn to dusk to maximize "payback."
