The efforts to improve health care begun by Obamacare or the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act of 2010 (PPACA) were signed into law in early 2010. The purpose of PPACA was to ensure all Americans could access quality and affordable health care while reducing rising health care costs.

Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act of 2010 (PPACA)
Managed care is an approach to healthcare that is aimed at helping reduce the costs of
healthcare while maintaining a high quality of care by emphasizing home treatment and
preventative medicine (Heaton & Tadi, 2020). Health Maintenance organizations are an example
of managed care. Federal assistance programs are federally funded assistance programs run by
the states and aimed at offering temporary assistance or welfare for needy families. These
programs provide assistance for things like childcare, food, home energy, job training, and
housing. One example of these programs is The Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program
(SNAP) which provides benefits through an Electronic Benefits Transfer card to eligible families
and individuals who have a low income. Another example is the Community Development Block
Grant (CDBG) which provides grants annually on a formula basis to cities, states, and counties
to facilitate the growth of viable urban communities by establishing a suitable living space,
housing that is modern and decent, and economic opportunities for families earning moderate
and low wages.
