The Negative Effects of Fast Food
Introduction
Fast foods have been an issue for nutrition for many years. Although it is a
profitable business, many fast foods are responsible for poor eating habits and obesity.
In 2021, the global fast-food industry made over $850 billion in revenue. Some
prominent fast-food businesses are Kentucky Fried Chicken (KFC) and McDonald's.
Despite the profitability of the fast-food business, it negatively affects society's
overall health (Fulkerson, 254). One of the main issues related to this industry is the
addiction to junk food. Some people cannot go a day without having a burger or
hotdog, and this habit leads to a downward spiral in their health. Many campaigns
have been done to convince people to stop eating fast foods and go for healthy options,
but it is a part of society that cannot be eliminated. This text will look into most of the
aspects relating to fast foods.
Background
It is important to understand how fast foods have become a part of society.
Fast foods come from developed countries. The first fast-food restaurants were
established in 1912 in the US. However, most people argue that White Castle, a US
restaurant founded in 1921, is the first fast food outlet that was prominent in the

country. Therefore, due to migration, most of the countries picked that culture from
the US. Fast food restaurants were founded by entrepreneurs who wanted to capitalize
on big cities and business centers (Grew). People have no time to sit for a decent meal
which might take time in these places. Therefore, they go for fast foods since they
take less time to cook and one is satisfied quickly. However, some people become
accustomed to eating fast foods, which has a negative effect on their overall health
and diet. Nowadays, many fast-food outlets have been established worldwide.
Types of Fast Foods
Fast foods are subject to the region where the owners have established the
outlets (Ngozika et al. 27). For instance, the fast foods in the US might not be
necessarily similar to those in India. However, some examples of fast foods include
snacks, beverages, fries, or anything that takes less time to cook. For instance, in the
US, some prominent fast foods are chips, sandwiches, hamburgers, fried chicken,
hotdogs, and pizza. In most outlets, these fast foods are provided with drinks and
beverages. Some examples of fast foods in India include fried potatoes, samosa, spicy
dishes, and salads. However, each outlet has fast foods that make it distinct. In
addition, most outlets specialize in one type of fast food. For instance, although KFC
provides other products, they are known for its fried chicken. It is difficult to have a
classification for fast foods, but their overall effect on people’s health is similar.
