Introduction
Intermediate sanctions refer to the types of punishment that are found in the criminal
justice system. They normally fall between incarceration and probation. There have however
been challenges facing the sanctions whereby they are not working properly (Byrne, 2016).
There have also been dissatisfactions from the outcomes of the already existing sanctions leading
to the need to change them. The lawmakers are not able to respond to the diverse offenses and
crimes that come along. After reading the article I felt that the authors were able to project the
future of the intermediate sanctions.
Intermediate Sanctions
Intermediate sanctions are very crucial when it comes to jurisdictions, there is need
however to make sure that they are working properly. In the past, the sanctions have not been
working properly yielding results which are not substantial to the judges. There is, therefore,
need to look into the current intermediate sanctions to make sure that they are working properly.
The way forward to having proper working sanctions is to have a wide range of sanctions options
an also a good policy that meant to guide their use (McGarry, n.d.).
Intermediate sanctions are used as punishments in a criminal justice system; these
punishments normally fall between incarceration and probation. There is more to a criminal
justice system than the trials once the offender has been convicted and found guilty then they
have to face the sentencing. This is where the intermediate sanctions come in; the offender has to
be given the penalty they deserve. The main type of sentencing is probation and incarceration,
however, they are not the only ones, and intermediate sanctions are the alternatives of the two
(Byrne, 2016).
