About Me Write a personal essay for your About Page that analyzes the ways in which a particular experience or series of experiences contributed to your present interest in, understanding of, or attitude toward life. The essay should move beyond a mere recounting of events, but instead should analyze how an experience has shaped your identity. It's important to find a focus that will anchor your narrative. You may want to think ahead to how you want to use your portfolio: • • • • Focus on a moment of enlightenment: an event that helped you see some truth about yourself, your family, or the world for the first time. Focus on a moment of confrontation with the unknown or with people or situations that tested your values or challenged your identity in some way. Focus on a situation where you found yourself included in or excluded from a particular group or community. Focus on a moment of conflict between your own experience and conventional wisdom: doing something that couldn't be done, failing or struggling with something described as easy, finding value in something rejected by society. Don't just stick to your basic credentials, degree and studies. Share some transparency; something unusual that explains how you made it here. Keep it concise and appropriate, make it honest, and tell a good story. Conclude by answering the question, how has this experience shaped your present interests or behaviors? People who affect our lives are the ones that create who we are and who we become. My grandpa was a person who influenced and enriched my life. My grandfather always used say to me: “if you want a respect from people, first you must respect yourself and others”. His motto was always present with me. My grandfather had to work hard all his life and had never chance to go school. For this reason, he always pointed out to me the importance of an education and opportunities for it. He was also a heavy smoker and had a lung cancer. To honor my grandpa, I was determined to pursue my education in the medical field and make a difference. The choice of my study was respiratory therapy to better understand pathology of diseases affecting lungs and learn about effects of smoking. I was born and raised in Italy. I moved to the United States after finishing a high school. I came to this country to find better educational opportunities. Living in a new country on my own thought me an independence, confidence and determination. I faced many challenges and managed to overcome them. The biggest barrier was a language barrier and not understanding words. I learned a language. I had to grew up quickly, learn a new language and adapt to an unfamiliar environment. The experience living in the foreign country shaped me as a person who am today- strong and independent. I have dreams and goals that I am determined to make happen. On the surface, I think I am very determined person pursuing my goals. As my grandpa thought me, I treat people with respect. I am diligent, I have effective communication skills, strong work ethics and desire to learn. I am ready to face new challenges and embrace them. I am always excited to start a new pathway in my life. As a respiratory therapist, I look forward to work hard and positively impact the lives of the patients in the future.

who we become in future. They shape our conducts and finally define our perception of life in
future. My grandpa was a person who influenced and enriched my life. He would often say to
me, “if you want respect from people, first you must respect yourself and others.” Since then, I
have been abiding by his words of wisdom, and they have acted as a stepping stone in many
challenges of life. My grandfather had to work hard all his life and had no chance to go school...
