BA 334 Upper Iowa University Section 3 Social Entrepreneurship Venture Discussion
InstructionsThe project will center on your submitting a grant proposal to receive funding for a social entrepreneurship venture that impacts efforts to improve conditions related to COVID-19. A list of grant options can be found at: https://skoll.org/skoll-foundation-covid-response/#grants. This is not an exhaustive list and you may identify other options, but this does give you a broad spectrum of options. The project is less about your being a professional grant writer. It is more about your having an understanding about what constitutes a social entrepreneurship venture and your documenting the steps that validate your venture as a viable option. Given the collective experience we all have gone through in 2020, providing a solution to one of the COVID-19 needs of society at large, is a great way to show your understanding of the concepts. You will be expected to cite your work - including the textbook. But also you will need to engage with additional sources that offer more insight into the solution you seek to provide through the grant. What to expect:The best way I can help you be successful with this project is to provide a clear rubric. Though I will be looking for certain APA elements, because this is a grant proposal, it will not be written as a typical paper and therefore some APA elements will not apply.Helpful resource from CARE. Decision Making and SWOT Analysis
Module 2 - Case Decision Making, PowerPoint, and SWOT Analysis Assignment Overview Lisa McDonald is the new VP of HR at Company XYZ. She has been with this company for 4 years and is nervous of this demanding position. While working for Company XYZ as an HR Generalist, she went to school in the evenings and earned a Master’s degree in Human Resource Management at a local university. As a result of her education, she was the right person for the job when the VP of HR left the company without notice. Unfortunately, Company XYZ did not have a succession plan in place and the CEO decided to “throw” Lisa into this prestigious position of VP of HR. Her first big project was to figure out why productivity levels have been decreasing over the last three quarters. She decided to create a survey. She had all of the employees at Company XYZ take the survey. After analyzing the results of the “Employee Climate and Work-life” survey, she learned that many of the employees feel as if they are overworked and burnt-out. After conducting some personal research and reviewing the data from the last survey, she learned that many of the employees have over 200 hours of unused sick-time (i.e., 5 weeks) and over 400 hours (i.e., 10 weeks) of unused vacation time. Her employees did not want to take any time off from work. She wondered if it was because they simply loved their job or if they were so overwhelmed with work, they could not afford to take time off from work. After calling her favorite professor from college, she understands that she has some options. Perhaps it’s time to implement a condensed work week? Perhaps it’s time to give employees the option of working 10 hour shifts, 4 days per week? Perhaps it’s time to offer the senior employees the option of working 13 hour shifts, 3 days per week? Perhaps it is time to let employees telecommute? All of the options have potential and could increase productivity levels and the other issues that emerged from the survey. The only problem is that she needs to discuss the situation with the CEO before she can implement a new policy. Some specific articles on this topic to get you started: Dizaho, E. K., Salleh, R., & Abdullah, A. (2017). Achieving work life balance through flexible work schedules and arrangements. Global Business and Management Research, 9(1), 455-465. The American Behavioral Scientist, 44(7), 1157-1178. Retrieved from https://search-proquest-com.ezproxy.trident.edu/do... Case Assignment Once you have finished reading about this topic and reviewing the background materials, please write a 2-page paper (either in essay format or Q & A format) addressing the following questions: How should Lisa McDonald approach the situation? As the new VP of HR, is it worth implementing a new “controversial” policy (i.e., condensed work week) or is time for a routine work flow analysis and job analysis? Justify your response.Do you believe Company XYZ has an effective succession plan? Justify your response. What are the consequences of not having a succession plan?Conduct some research and familiarize yourself with the following terms: (a) job enlargement, (b) job rotation, and (c) job enrichment. Do you think a plausible solution for this situation is job enlargement, job sharing, job rotation, and/or job enrichment? Justify your response. As an HR Manager, what is the best way to gauge how your employees feel about a telecommuting policy (e.g., large meeting, anonymous survey, or one-on-one meetings)? Justify your response. If the CEO opposes telecommuting but is willing to hear some “options for a condensed work week” (i.e., 3 days a week with 13 hours shifts), what are the pros and cons of such a unique schedule? What if the CEO agrees to telecommuting? What would be some feasible rules and regulations so there is no confusion among the employees? Assignment-Driven: Does the paper fully address all aspects of the assignment? Is the assignment addressed accurately and precisely using sound logic? Does the paper meet minimum length requirements?Critical Thinking: Does the paper demonstrate graduate-level analysis, in which information derived from multiple sources, expert opinions, and assumptions has been critically evaluated and synthesized in the formulation of a logical set of conclusions? Does the paper address the topic with sufficient depth of discussion and analysis?Business Writing: Is the essay logical, well organized and well written? Are the grammar, spelling, and vocabulary appropriate for graduate-level work? Are section headings included? Are paraphrasing and synthesis of concepts the primary means of responding, or is justification/support instead conveyed through excessive use of direct quotations?Effective Use of Information: Does the submission demonstrate that the student has read, understood, and can apply the background materials for the module? If required, has the student demonstrated effective research, as evidenced by student’s use of relevant and quality sources? Do additional sources used provide strong support for conclusions drawn, and do they help in shaping the overall paper?Citing Sources: Does the student demonstrate understanding of APA Style of referencing, by inclusion of proper citations (for paraphrased text and direct quotations) as appropriate? Have all sources (e.g., references used from the Background page, the assignment readings, and outside research) been included, and are these properly cited? Have all sources cited in the paper been included on the References page?Timeliness: Has the assignment been submitted to TLC (Trident’s learning management system) on or before the module’s due date? Case reports are to be prepared in Microsoft Word and should be 2-3 pages in length, in addition to a cover page (course name and number, module number, session name, Attention is to be given to citing sources of information in-text (within the body of the paper) as well as in the end references section of your paper. Write a one page abstract paper detailing a major program that has been managed via the acquisition process..
Your final paper will need an abstract. This
final paper will be where you submit a 7 to 10 page paper detailing a
major program that has been managed, via the acquisition process, over
the past decade. The content of the paper should demonstrate your
understanding of the acquisition and program manager processes discussed
over the past eight weeks. Therefore,
think about that final paper and begin research this week on what you
think it might be about. Then write an abstract of that concept at this
point in time in this class. You may find over the remaining few weeks
that some variation of the final paper concept changes and that might
change this abstract. If so, that is normal and just fine. In fact, an
abstract is usually the very last piece of any research paper since it
highlights what your paper is all about, what it has reported on
discovering from your research. So, write a one page abstract. It will be edited and sent back to you to use in the final paper. Review all Learning Objectives (LO-1-8). Research the learning objective in the library and on the web. Write this one page paper, plus the title page and a reference page.
That means a one page paper would actually consist of three pages. The
title page and the reference page are never counted in a formal college
paper. As
always, read all the lesson notes before you start this assignment as
new or current events may have been updated since the start of class. Now,
to write an abstract is not just to cut and paste a summary of your
paper or proposed final paper. An abstract is a unique document. It is
usually created after the body of the paper is complete. It is the very
last thing you write. But, we begin here with one. And yes, it is
expected that it might change a bit by the time you do a bit more
research. So, study what an abstract really is. You may be surprised. Writing Instructions (Please read this): •Written communication: Written communication is free of errors that detract from the overall message. •APA formatting: Resources and citations are formatted according to APA (6th edition) style and formatting. •Length of paper: typed, double-spaced pages of 7 to 10 page paper (the content section). •Font and font size: Times New Roman, 12 point. HR 310 Park Unit 5 Diversity Inclusion and Out Group Members Discussion
Unit 5: DiscussionNo unread replies. No replies.IntroductionDiversity, Inclusion, and Out-Group MembersAddressing diversity and inclusion is a multilayered process that requires a wider range of leadership practices. Though diversity and inclusion seem to be different concepts, they are inter-related processes. Diversity and the six key components of the experience of inclusion will be explored in Chapter 9.In Chapter 10, out-group members are defined by individuals in a group or an organization who do not identify with the larger group. This chapter will describe the challenges and opportunities of working with out-groups within a team or organization and how effort should be made to create an inclusive environment that will facilitate their contributions (Northouse, 2021).Unit Learning OutcomesAssess the complex processes of diversity and inclusion (CLO 4).Devise strategies for working productively with members of a team (CLO 6).DirectionsReview the unit resources and assigned chapters. Answer the discussion questions and submit for review. Primary post is due by Wednesday (11:59 pm, CST). Respond to at least two peer postings. Peer postings are due by Friday (11:59 pm, CST). Your peer responses should: State if you share their perspective.Explain your perspective on the issue.Support your perspective with reasoning or justification. Please be sure to use supporting material from the chapter to strengthen your discussion and justify your answers. There is no length limit; however, you should answer each question thoroughly.Discussion EtiquetteYou should consider the discussion threads as being analogous to the kind of discussions typical of a face-to-face class: strive to be yourself, have a voice, and to say things that are interesting, provocative, and respectful.Since this is an educational setting, you are encouraged to proofread, and to avoid the more slang- and emoticon-fueled discourse that appear on social media. One of the goals here is professional preparation; if you would not say or do something in the workplace, then you should not post similar material in a discussion thread.Due DateFirst post due 11:59 p.m., Wednesday CTRespond to two or more classmates by 11:59 p.m., Friday, CT.Discussion QuestionsFor Unit 5, you will address the following tasks in one discussion post (Primary Post):Chapter 9 – one opening question and one additional question of your choice.Chapter 10 – one opening question and one additional question of your choice.Critical Thinking – Read the following report (Global Gender Gap Report 2020 from the World Economic Forum) and share your findings.Chapter 9Why are inequities between individuals and groups difficult to resolve?Choose one of the following additional questions to answer:Are all the primary dimensions of diversity in Table 9.1 equally important to your current identity? Why or why not? What are some of the competitive advantages of diverse workgroups? Give real-life examples.Using the Inclusion Framework (Table 9.3) how can a person move from one quadrant to another? What is the role of organizational members, not just the leader, to “effectively address and build inclusion”?Is it ever acceptable not to be inclusive of every group? Why or why not?Chapter 10Are out-groups mostly negative? If so, why? Are there positive aspects to out-groups? If so, what?Choose one of the following additional questions to answer:How can a leader work to bring opposing viewpoints into a group? How would you incorporate out-group members into an organization? Why are out-groups so prevalent in our culture? Is it possible to eliminate out-groups entirely? How should leaders approach out-groups that are a sizeable minority of the group? What if the out-group represents a majority of members? Some out-group members are social loafers and have no intention of changing. What would you recommend the leader do in such cases? What is a social group that you identify with? How are you similar to others in that group? Different?Respond to this statement: “People always remember how you make them feel.”Critical Thinking DiscussionRead one or more sections of the Global Gender Gap Report 2020 from the World Economic Forum (Links to an external site.) and present your findings to the class. What was most interesting to you and why?Consider addressing some of the following questions:What effects do gender gaps have on creating a flourishing society? What inclusive practices do the top-ranked countries engage in?What trends do the data show? What leadership is needed to narrow the gap?
