Abstract
Non-unionized members do not have any representation from any union in the workplace
whereas the unionized workers are those that are members of a recognized employee association
which bargains on behalf of their members. Some of the factors that a union may bargain on
behalf of its members include; salary and benefits, working conditions, and complaints among
others. The human resource management in an organization has different roles to those of the
union. However, sometimes these roles may overlap. The aim of the study was to compare and
contrast the human resource practices in unionized and non-unionized organizations. The study
found out that in the USA the Universal Health Services is a for-profit organization that is
unionized while the Catholic Health Initiatives was the not-for-profit non-unionized
organization. The study also found out that there are similarities and differences in HRM
practices for unionized and non-unionized in terms of training and development, recruitment, and
appraisal. Furthermore, the study discovered that as an HR manager it is more beneficial to work
