Thomas Jefferson was a representative of his time in the fact that he held prejudices against nonwhites especially African Americans. In fact, for a long time, he owned slaves. But, contrary to
the mainstream ideals of his time, Jefferson had strong views on equality and liberty. In spite of
his flaws, one cannot dispute that the man was a true revolutionary. In his later years, Jefferson
came to be an outspoken proponent of the freedom of slaves. He believed that slavery was an
atrocious blemish on the face of America.
