The period of time between 1877 to 1900 was known as the Age of organization for many reasons. The main reason was because of the many organizations that banded together to fight bad wages. These organizations were created by multiple entities: the common man, US government in some form, and political parties.
For instance, one organization that grew out of the activities of the Western Federation of Miners in the 1890's and formed by Eugene V. Debs. This organization was known as Industrial workers of the world (IWW). The IWW attempted to unite all skilled and unskilled workers in an effort to overthrow capitalism.
Another well-known organization during this time was the "Grangers". This organization was formed to meet the social and cultural needs of farmers who took an active role in the promotion of the economic and political interests of farmers.
A type of government organization that was established by Congress in 1887 was the Interstate Commerce Commission (ICC). This agency investigated interstate shipping, required railroads to make their rates public, and could bring lawsuits to force shippers to reduce unfair fares.
The farmers of America during this time united to form an organization known as the "farmers alliance". These were regional organizations formed to advance the interests of farmers. This organization specifically created a proposal for the federal government to extend loans to farmers and store their crops in warehouses until prices rose, allowing the farmers to buy and sell their crops to repay owed debts.
One of the most well-known organizational movements would be that of the Populists. This was known as the peoples part of America, which was formed in 1892. This organization sought to appeal to both farmers and industrial workers.
Some other organizations consisted of trade unions such as the AFL( American Federation of Labor); this organization was founded in 1886 which was led by Samuel Gompers who sought to organize skilled workers into trade-specific unions.
In conclusion, many organizations arrived during the 1877-1990's that would make America a booming country for prosperity. Some would consider this the time of "Age of organizations" due to the massive number of organizations that were founded by a diverse set of entities.
