Ex: Omaha gets about 22 inches of precipitation less than Charleston. For the two cities together, the precipitation totals 82 inches. How much does Omaha get?

Mar 29th, 2015

C+O=82in

we know that O gets 22 in less than Charleston.

Therefore, 82-22= 60 inch.

The 60 inches is the highest amount that Charleston can get. Because Omaha could get zero inches of rain per year.

Charleston gets atleast 60 inches, while ohama can get no less than zero inches.

If you have any questions, please ask

Mar 29th, 2015

So are you saying charleston gets 60 inches and omaha gets 0? Remember C gets 22 more than O and together is 82. O+C=total and C-22=O. C nor O is 82.

Mar 29th, 2015

No, I am not...Sorry typed that up wrong ...let me rephrase

Mar 29th, 2015

Charleston receives 52in

While OmahaOhoma Receives 30 in

52+30in=82 inches in total

I am sorry :(

Charleston receives 52in

While Omaha Receives 30 in

52+30in=82 inches in total

I am sorry for the confusion, if you need another question answered I will do it for free. JUst send it via text.

Sorry for all the replying it's almost like were texting. I forgot to tell you i got the answer before but by guessing. It would be helpful if you gave me a brief explanation. But thanks!

Mar 29th, 2015

alright

The total is 82

C+O=82

We cannot solve for both variables at once, therefore, we need to solve for just one.

C+ (c-22) = 82

C-22 is what is used to find for O, because O is c-22

C+C -22=82

C+C=2C

2C-22=82

add 22 to both sides of the equation

82+22= 104

now we have

2c=104

divide both sides by 2, because we are looking to find for C

104/2 =52

C=52

Now we have C, and need to find for O

the original equation was C+O=82

plug in for C, which is 52

52+O=82

subtract 54 from both sides

82-52= 30

Now we can plug it all in the original equation

(c+o=82)

52+30=82

Any more questions?

Just remember that

C+O=82

We could never solve for both variables at once, so find something to subsitute in so that we can solve for one variable in at a time.

C+ C-22=82

anything with the same variable can be added together

C+C

is 2c

Then that gives us 2c-22=82

I am trying to explain it on a fifth grade level. I am sorry for being confusing

Did that make sense?
