Introduction

Law and ethics are not similar, even though ethical decision-making will always involve
a consideration of the law, alongside institution, experience and personal attributes and skills.
Typically, the law tells us what we are required to do and what we are prohibited from doing.
While ethics is known to set maximum standards, it has been known that the law sets minimum
standards.
Discussion
Both Michigan and the federal legislatures have come up with various fair laws, which
among other stuff, gives a restriction on the circumstances under which organizations or rather
employers may discipline, discharge or hire their employees, (Stevens, 2008). Just like other
organizations, this is also applicable in my workplace. The law protects the rights of all the
employees within my workplace and covers almost all the aspects of the employee/employer
relationship.
The law affects certain issues in my workplace such as: redundancy and dismissal,
gender, disability discrimination, race discrimination, sex and sexual orientation discrimination,
age discrimination, parental and maternity rights; equal pay, bullying and harassment, grievances
and discipline; discrimination a result of marital or civil partnership status; belief or religion and
