Human Resources Case Study
Case StudyIn an essay of between 750 and 1000 words, respond to the following case:You work at New Homes, Inc. The company manufactures, delivers and assembles prefabricated homes. It is located in a small town (12,000 people) about 25 miles from Atlanta, Georgia. For the past two decades the company has worked strenuously to recruit a larger number of African Americans among its professional workforce, particularly the sales force. The efforts have been successful. At this point approximately 14 per cent of the sales force and 17 per cent of the entire workforce are African Americans. (African Americans are 15 percent of the surrounding population.) At a recent meeting the company determined that regardless of this effort, the same twenty years have witnessed spectacular growth of Vietnamese and Hispanic populations, now 7 per cent and 12 percent respectively of the surrounding population. Presently there are no Vietnamese employees and only two Hispanic staffers out a total of 225 employees of all types in New Homes. The two Hispanic staff members work in maintenance. You have been asked to prepare a memo for the HR Manager identifying the steps you believe the company should take in seeking to create a more diverse workforce based on the current regional demographics. As you write your memo, keep in mind that the effort will require recruitment of production workers, sales employees and office staff (both clerical and professional). Also, your plan must incorporate at least three of what you believe are key issues that Dessler addresses in Chapter 5 of his textbook.(Note: As mentioned in the book, the following are the items mentioned in recruiting a more diverse workforce:* Recruiting Women * Recruiting Single Parents * Recruiting Older Workers * Recruiting Minorities * Recruiting the DisabledI think Women, Minorities and Disabled are the most important...focus on those 3 but you can include how single parents and older workers can contribute also.)

Indiana Wesleyan University The Bible and Human Rights Discussion
Getting StartedThe story of human rights is seen in the Bible from the very beginning. Before people sinned and things went kinda crazy, God makes it clear in the book of Genesis that he created both male and female “in His image” to rule over creation. Men and women were clearly different from one another both physically and in their design in representing God’s image, but they were equal and the design was “good.” As it is with all of our understanding of the Christian faith, we have to go back to the beginning to make sure we understand God’s original intent and design before sin entered the world and interpret the rest of scripture through this lens. For this week’s devotional, watch the short video entitled Jesus, Slaves, and Female Disciples (Bill Arnold and Ben Witherington) and respond to the discussion questions below.ResourcesBibleVideo: Jesus, Slaves, and Female Disciples (Bill Arnold and Ben Witherington): Video: Is the Bible Sexist? With / Dr. Jo Vitale (The Perfect Story – Part 6): https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rg6TjUroGKoBackground InformationThen God said, “Let us make humankind in our image, in our likeness, so that they may rule over the fish in the sea and the birds in the sky, over the livestock and all the wild animals, and over all the creatures that move along the ground.”So God created humankind in his own image,in the image of God he created them;male and female he created them.Genesis 1:26–27Again the Israelites did evil in the eyes of the Lord, now that Ehud was dead. So the Lord sold them into the hands of Jabin king of Canaan, who reigned in Hazor. Sisera, the commander of his army, was based in Harosheth Haggoyim. Because he had nine hundred chariots fitted with iron and had cruelly oppressed the Israelites for twenty years, they cried to the Lord for help. Now Deborah, a prophet, the wife of Lappidoth, was leading Israel at that time. She held court under the Palm of Deborah between Ramah and Bethel in the hill country of Ephraim, and the Israelites went up to her to have their disputes decided. She sent for Barak son of Abinoam from Kedesh in Naphtali and said to him, “The Lord, the God of Israel, commands you: ‘Go, take with you ten thousand men of Naphtali and Zebulun and lead them up to Mount Tabor. I will lead Sisera, the commander of Jabin’s army, with his chariots and his troops to the Kishon River and give him into your hands.’”Barak said to her, “If you go with me, I will go; but if you don’t go with me, I won’t go.”“Certainly I will go with you,” said Deborah. “But because of the course you are taking, the honor will not be yours, for the Lord will deliver Sisera into the hands of a woman.”Judges 4:1–9So in Christ Jesus you are all children of God through faith, for all of you who were baptized into Christ have clothed yourselves with Christ. There is neither Jew nor Gentile, neither slave nor free, nor is there male and female, for you are all one in Christ Jesus. If you belong to Christ, then you are Abraham’s seed, and heirs according to the promise.Galatians 3:28–29PrayGod, you are the God who created both men and women in your image. It is amazing to know that all people, regardless of sex, ethnicity, abilities or social status reflect your likeness. Help me to see your image in all people, especially those that I serve and to show them the value and dignity they deserve. In Jesus’ name. Amen.InstructionsWatch the video: Jesus, Slaves, and Female Disciples and Is the Bible Sexist?Navigate to the threaded discussion and respond to the following prompts:What has been your understanding of the Bible’s approach to human rights regarding women, slavery, minority groups, etc.?Describe one insight you gained from watching the video and listening to the audio regarding the Bible’s view.In the video, Dr. Witherington explains that the apostle Paul used a strategy for influencing change and bringing people back to God’s original design by starting with people where they are and bringing change within the context of the community. Describe how you can you apply this strategy in your work with clients? Give an example.Dr. Witherington also remarks that the apostle Paul was “not out to change the political system as much as having the changes spring up internally.” Briefly discuss how this can be an effective strategy. Provide an example if you can.
