Let's say that we mix together 1L of each solution. The reaction between HAc (acetic acid) and NaOH:

Moles                   HAc + NaOH -----> H2O + NaAc

Initial . . . . . . . . . .0.17.    .0.085 . . . .0 . . . . . .0
Reacted/Made . . .0.085. . 0.085 . . . .0.085 . .0.085
Final . . . . . . . . . .0.085 . . . .0 . . . . . . 0.085 . .0.085

pH = pKa + log (moles A- / moles HA) . . .the Ka for HAc = 1.77 x 10^-5
pH = -log (1.77 x 10^-5) + log (0.085 / 0.085) = 4.75 + log 1 = 4.75 + 0 = 4.75
