UIUC Human Microbiome Questions
A. Identify and read at least two review articles that provide a good overview of your topic. Include the references of these reviews using the following format.Iniesta, A.A., Hillson, N.J., & Shapiro, L. (2010). Cell pole-specific activation of a critical bacterial cell cycle kinase. Proc Natl Acad Sci. 107, 7012-7017.B. Construct a Glossary for every new term that you learn from your reading of the reviews (at least 10 terms). Use your textbook, library resources, PubMed, google scholar, and other resources to learn as much as you can about the new terms. Use your own words to describe the term and reference your sources by simply including it in parenthesis [i.e., (Google scholar)]. The glossary section must be a minimum of 10 terms but can be as long as you need it. Format can be general Arial font 11, margins 0.7”, single/double spacing.C. Identify three specific questions/emphasis (i.e., areas of active research on your topic) that you would like to learn more about for your final presentation. These should be ideas/topics that you find interesting. During your final presentation, you will present a research article that covers one of those questions/emphasis.

You will now decide if building a wildlife crossing would benefit the SMM mountain lion population.
Post Requirements
This assignment requires two posts, each completed individually.
For the first post, write a short 3-4 sentence answer to the following question:
Should the Mountain Lion Task Force support the building of the wildlife crossing as a solution to increase the genetic viability of the SMM mountain lion population? Provide justification for your answer using t data from a minimum of 2 tables that your group analyzed from Let's Analyze the Data.
For the second post, respond to a classmate's post:
If you agree with your classmate, what data from Let's Analyze the Data do you find the most compelling? Explain.
If you disagree with your classmate, explain your reasoning using data from Let's Analyze the Data.
Question: Should the Mountain Lion Task Force support the building of the wildlife crossing as a solution to increase the genetic viability of the SMM mountain lion population?
The Mountain Lion Task Force should support the building of the wildlife crossing as a solution to increase the genetic viability of the SMM mountain lion population. According to the table 3, the totally observed frequency of mountain lions passages through the wildlife crossings In Banff National park from 1997-2000 is over 70, so that means these mountain lions did really use and need these crossings. These crossings can helps the lions have ways to get close to other lions and breed more breed of lions to increase the population of SMM. In addition, according to the table 4, it shows that the migration event can increase the genetic diversity of SMM. The new migration of P12 cross the 101 freeway and change the previous number alleles of SMM from 1.9 to 2.3, and the polymorphic is also from 76% to 83%. This is a big change and will increase the total number of SMM, so the the building of wildlife crossing can make this happen and give them the way to immigrate to another environment to increase the genetic diversity.

BIO 121 CSUGC MOD 5 Approaching Zero Carbon Energy Production Discussion
Household waste production has a large impact on the environment. Much of it ends up in landfills, while some of it ends up in rivers and oceans. And the more we consume, the more raw materials we use, and the more habitats are polluted or even destroyed in the process of extracting those materials. In this paper you will investigate the concept of achieving a zero-waste lifestyle. Begin by viewing view these three short videos on reducing waste: A pain-free way to cut down on the stuff in your home | (Links to an external site.) Disposability Consciousness (Links to an external site.) and The Business Logic of Sustainability \ Ray Anderson \ TED (Links to an external site.).Write a paper addressing the following questions:Do you think it is possible for anyone to achieve a truly zero-waste lifestyle? Why or why not? What are some fundamental shifts in consciousness—in the way we think about our consumption and waste production—that would have to change on the path toward such a lifestyle? What do you see as some of the easiest steps one could make toward reducing waste production in the home? What do you consider to be the greatest obstacles to reaching zero waste, and why? What are some methods of tackling those obstacles?Do you think that you and your household would ever be able to reach zero waste? Why or why not?Looking beyond the home, do you think that corporations can attain zero waste? What are some of the pros and cons a company might consider before pursuing that goal? Can humans live sustainably on Earth and still produce waste? Why or why not?Requirements:Your written paper should be 3-4 pages, not counting the title and reference pages, which you must include. You need to cite at least four sources for this assignment, outside of the textbook. The CSU Global Library (Links to an external site.) is a great place to find resources.Your paper must be formatted according to the CSU Global Writing Center (Links to an external site.).If you need assistance with your writing style, start with the links under the Research Help and Writing Help tabs on the CSU Global Library's (Links to an external site.) homepage.Option #2: Approaching Zero-Carbon Energy ProductionIn the Ecological Footprint Reduction Project that concluded this week, you may have taken steps to conserve energy. While it is certainly the case that the less conventional energy we use, the less carbon we tend to emit into the atmosphere, we aren't going to achieve zero carbon emissions from energy production until we stop burning fossil fuels altogether. We are still a long way from that; as you can see from this table of U.S. energy production by source (Links to an external site.), in 2018, 62.9% of the nation's energy still came from burning coal, oil, and natural gas. Given this situation, and the urgency of our global need to curb greenhouse gas emissions soon, what should we do from here? In your paper, propose one action that you feel would make the biggest impact toward realizing a zero-carbon energy future. That action might involve government at some level (national, state, local) and/or non-government organizations, and/or communities, and/or individuals. Provide a detailed plan for how that action might be accomplished most readily. Note any obstacles that might need to be overcome along the way, and how that might be done. Support your ideas with credible and/or scholarly sources.Requirements:Your written paper should be 3-4 pages, not counting the title and reference pages, which you must include. You need to cite at least four sources for this assignment, outside of the textbook.
