I have to write a 3 page lit. review on water management. Here is my research question: What water or business strategies need to be changed in order to secure the water supply in developing countries?
I chose to focus on two countries, Jordan and Yemen.
Length
In a proposal situation, the length of a lit review depends on the overall length allowed, and the priority the approving body (the audience of the particular proposal) places on framing the project using literature. Those factors will shape how much detail you include in your lit review. In any case, your review should not include extraneous information.
Remember that your purpose is to articulate the need for your study (i.e. how it will contribute to knowledge), as you plan to execute it. At this stage you may not know how you plan to execute it. If that’s the case, don’t worry, we’ll get there when we focus on methods. For now you can just focus on framing the need for the study.
In summary, the literature review should make your research question(s) or hypothesis feel logical and important.
Do include the research questions and a bibliography of works cited at the end of your lit review document
the literature review, in its final form, is an important component of your proposal. For us, the length of the lit review will depend in part on the number of categories and concepts in your research question(s). It should also make clear how your project can contribute to conversations in the existing literature. For now, please consider 3 pages at 1.5 spacing to be about the maximum for your lit review. In some cases they may be shorter. As in other settings, strive to exclude any extraneous information.
The structure and logic of your lit review is more important than its length.
