A Report on Factors to Consider Before Constructing a Residential Building in Harvey
Problem Statement
Harvey suffers from hurricanes and flooding. Due to this problem, construction and
especially constructing a building that will stand the hurricanes becomes a nightmare. Homes are
surrounded by flood water, and this moves people a problem. Coastal hurricanes demolish
buildings. Due to these problems, there are factors which must be considered prior to
construction of a building, in Harvey. These factors are listed below;
(i)
If there are adequate government policies and regulations that aide in ensuring
that there is no a repetition of calamities that have happened before. Previous
calamities are believed to have been caused by weak regulations that undermined
the potential lying danger of the hurricanes and flooding. This should be an
important factor as the government has muscles to handle such calamities. Factor
such as the disaster preparedness and government investment in disaster
preparedness should also be considered.
(ii)
The drainage system should also be a factor to be considered. The drainage
system plays a big role in driving the rain water away from the city, and thus a

good drainage system means an effective flooding management while drainage
means that problems of flooding will be a common thing.
(iii)
Before construction, availability of a sea-wall should also be considered. This is
because the seawall blocks the storm-driven waves from reaching the buildings.
Lack of seawall blocks means that the city will be exposed to the possible danger
of storm which would destroy infrastructure. Presence of a seaw...
