Description

The Discussion Board (DB) is part of the core of online learning. Classroom discussion in an online environment requires the active participation of students and the instructor to create robust interaction and dialogue. Every student is expected to create an original response to the open-ended DB question as well as engage in dialogue by responding to posts created by others throughout the week. At the end of each unit, DB participation will be assessed based on both level of engagement and the quality of the contribution to the discussion.

At a minimum, each student will be expected to post an original and thoughtful response to the DB question and contribute to the weekly dialogue by responding to at least two other posts from students. The first contribution must be posted before midnight (Central Time) on Friday of each week. Two additional responses are required after Friday of each week. Students are highly encouraged to engage on the Discussion Board early and often, as that is the primary way the university tracks class attendance and participation.

The purpose of the Discussion Board is to allow students to learn through sharing ideas and experiences as they relate to course content and the DB question. Because it is not possible to engage in two-way dialogue after a conversation has ended, no posts to the DB will be accepted after the end of each unit.

Another important aspect of completing your research project is to effectively present the issue to any stakeholders involved or anyone with an interest in the chosen issue.

Write 5–7 paragraphs that address the following points:

  • Provide some tips that you plan to use for effectively presenting your research findings and proposed solution to your specific audience.
  • How would you determine who your audience is?
  • What would you choose as your method of presentation (e.g., lecture format, informal question & answer session, hybrid of more than one method, etc.)? Explain why would you choose that method.
  • In your answer, be sure to share with your peers how you would present your research statement, and provide a rationale for choosing that method.

CHAPTER ONE
1.1EXECUTIVE SUMMARY
The agricultural potential in Uganda contributes to about 26.5 percent of the country's GDP while
at the same time offering 70 percent of the employment opportunities in the country. Uganda grows
various tropical fruits with Bananas being the most popular. These abundant fruits have mostly
ended up wasted through post-harvest loses or wastage. The lack of skills and technology for value
addition to fruits that can make them last longer has been the biggest reason (Gold 36).
Agro-processing in the industrial sector has remained undeveloped and unpopular over the years
with research showing that this sector only consumes one percent of the fruit produces. Agroprocessing in Uganda is only done in small scale, and the demand for it is increasing with the
realization that it's a good way to reduce crop losses and for value addition to fruits. Post-harvest
losses are estimated to be around fifty percent of the whole fruit percentage harvested. These losses
affect the economy negatively in particular through the extra costs incurred when substituting for
the losses with increased production. Numerous reasons are causing these losses including
physical, biochemical and mechanical aspects (Aurore 82).
This fact leaves an untapped and unexploited market in the African region. Afri Foods is a
company that seeks to base itself in the Eastern African region of the African continent targeting
Uganda as the country to start up. Afri food aims to start up a fruit drying manufacturing industry
with the first fruits of focus being Bananas. Using its economic and financial projection, Afri Fruits
hopes to introduce a new concept in the market and sustain a good marketing position using its
well-thought of strategies
CHAPTER TWO

2.1 THE COMPANY
Government records show that the number of fruits that are processed in Uganda only constitute
to five percent of the total fruits produced while half of the remaining fruits go to waste (Van 330).
This being the case the availability of raw products is evidently high. Afri Fruits aims at increasing
the usability of fruits by offering a different type of processed products. It aims at reducing the
number of fruits lost especially during harvesting seasons by creating new industrial processing
opportunities. The company hopes to process bananas for consumption by both local consumers
in Uganda as well as for export purposes since the international market has a high demand for
dried fruits especially tropical fruits such as bananas.
The director of Afri food has a master's degree in food science and has worked in the food
processing industry for twelve years. He has more than five years as an executive manager which
has gained him relevant skills and experience. His interest and passion for food science led him to
start up a high-end restaurant with franchises in five countries. Branching out to fruit
manufacturing was motivated by his love for trying out new things and the fact that fruit produce
is abundant in African yet most of it goes to wait. With his experience and expertise, the director
is, therefore, able to run this company into big gaining huge profit margins.
2.2 COMPANY HISTORY
The director developed the idea of starting up a fruit processing industry in Uganda. The high
numbers of loses occurring after harvest was his greatest motivation. With this project he
visualized an increase in food security in Uganda, decrease in hunger and malnutrition, and income
opportunities for local communities as well introduction of new products to the fruit processing
market.

2.3 MISSION STATEMENT
To provide the highest quality and unique banana dried products, offer impeccable services and
guarantees steady supplies, quick deliveries as well as develop and maintain strong relationships
with farmers and other business stakeholders.
2.4 OUR VISION
Afri Fruits is focused on having a competitive advantage in the market by delivering quality
consistently, offering the best services to their consumers by considering their needs in quality
control as well as ensuring excellent customer relations.
2.5 COMPANY OBJECTIVES
The quality of the products will be maintained by the use of the best banana types and select those
without any blemishes.
The company aims at gaining a significant market share especially in the local market where the
manufacturing will happen as well as in the international market where the demand is very high.
The company also aims at gaining supplies from the local farmers. This move would enhance the
economy of the country as well as employ locals in the manufacturing company to help them gain
income revenue.
Becoming the leading processor and marketer of dried fruits other than bananas is also a long-term
objective of the business as it grows. The growth of the company would see its diversification i...
