A rectangle has a length that is 12 inches shorter than 3 times its width. If the perimeter is 144 inches, what are the dimensions?

Oct 23rd, 2017

Length= 3w-12

W+W+L+L= 2W + 6W-24=144

8W-24=144

8W=168

W=21

L= 3*21-12=51

Check: 2*51+2*21=144

I am just a little confused by this subject, such as where you got the 6W at the very top

Apr 3rd, 2015

one length equals 3w-12, so just double that  2(3w-12)=6w-24
