MTH 218 University of Phoenix Week 4 Test Selection Statistics Discussion
Consider a situation that you might want to study through a statistical lens. The situation would require you to study a small sample and make an inference to the population. For example, you might want to understand how likely children are to complete their homework when considering their individual characteristics or maybe you want to understand if children who eat broccoli are more likely to complete their homework than those who do not.
Respond to the following in a minimum of 100 words without reference:
How would you select a test that was appropriate to answer your question?
How would you rule out tests that were not appropriate to answer your question?
Post 2 replies to classmates or your faculty member. Be constructive and professional. This is a response from another student that I need to reply to in a minimum of 100 words without reference:
"Consider a situation that you might want to study through a statistical lens. The situation would require you to research a small sample and make an inference to the population. For example, you might want to understand how likely children are to complete their homework when considering their characteristics. Maybe you want to understand if children who eat broccoli are more likely to complete their homework than those who do not.
· How would you select a test that was appropriate to answer your question?
· How would you rule out tests that were not appropriate to answer your question?
1 - is the proportion of kids who eat broccoli who finish their homework.
2 - is the proportion of kids who do not eat broccoli who finish their homework.
Null Hypothesis
H0: 1 = 2
The proportion of kids who eat broccoli who finish their homework is equal to the proportion of kids who do not eat broccoli who finish their homework.
Alternative Hypothesis
H1: 1 > 2
The proportion of kids who eat broccoli who finish their homework is greater than the proportion of kids who do not eat broccoli who finish their homework.
Are children who eat broccoli more likely to complete their homework than children who do not eat broccoli.
Outcome: Did you complete your homework? (yes or no)
Predictor: Do you eat broccoli? (yes or no)
Two populations: Kids who eat broccoli and kids who do not eat broccoli.
We need a test that can compare two proportions. Two proportion Z-test as long as we have enough data. We need a sample of about five kids in each group who report finishing or not finishing their homework.
We can rule out the test that needs a continuous outcome. (t-test, c, etc.) "

Credit Card vs Savings Account Discussion
For this discussion, suppose you purchase a television for $1300.00 with a First Premier credit card that has 79.9% APR. Assuming simple interest and no monthly payments, how much interest will you owe at the end of 12 months? What will the total cost of the television be?
Suppose you open a savings account with $1300.00 at a 0.5% annual interest rate. Assume simple interest. How much interest will your account accrue at the end of 12 months? What will be the balance of your account?
In one scenario, you are the lender (to the bank) in the other scenario the credit card company is the lender. Compare the two different scenarios. Is this a fair situation and why? Next respond to your peers' post by explaining whether you agree or disagree with their reasoning and why.

Paine College One Sample T Rest SPSS Data Analysis Paper
This is the second of two sections for your Data Analysis Assignment. In this section, you will complete a one-sample t-test on new data and interpret the results. This Data Analysis Assignment focuses on the application of the One-Sample t-Test. While completing this assignment contemplate: What are some ways in which the one-sample t-test can be useful? Will this analysis play a role in your own research paper plan?
Review & ReflectIn this Data Analysis project, we will be examining the distribution of three common areas of academic study and comparing these to the known mean in the overall population. Fifty students in this class have taken three measures of academic success — Math, Reading, and Spelling. As the teacher you know that each test has been used nationally and know that the expected means for each test are:• Math –μ=55• Reading μ=62• Spelling μ=83
You want to know if your class is significantly different from the expected mean from the population. The data for your class of 50 students 1. State your null and alternative hypotheses.2. Is this a one or two-tailed hypotheses? Explain.3. Calculate the appropriate statistical test. (If you get stuck, refer back to the video from 2a or see the description in your book)• Be sure to include measures of central tendency and variability in your analysis/writeup.4. Can you reject the null hypothesis? Why or why not?5. Write a results section for your findings.• Include the descriptive statistics, type of statistical test, and results of the tests, with effect sizes and confidence intervals.
